1. Eat For Fertility

If you are trying to conceive, chances are, you are already paying attention to your diet. Fertility and diet are so closely intertwined, it’s scary. Most women already know that when you are trying to conceive, whole foods are your friends. Organic fruits and veggies, lean meats and whole grains are the best way to go when trying to conceive.

But, what about dairy? Often overlooked when it comes to fertility diets, dairy is actually a very important aspect, and you might be surprised to learn that some experts think that taking dairy out of your TTC diet is the best way to go. Read on for more info.

2. Why No Dairy?

It goes against every “drink your milk” we’ve been taught, but as it turns out there are several studies that indicate that women who consume a lot of dairy products actually have more problems with age related infertility. Now, of course, this is not to say that all women who are trying to conceive need to cut dairy products out completely, but it is a very interesting theory to say the least. It will be very interesting to watch in the future as more studies are done on this topic to find out if dairy is truly related to a decline in fertility.

3. Other Issues With Dairy

Dairy has also been known to have other adverse effects on the body as well. In some people, dairy helps the body to produce galactose, a milk sugar which has been said to actually be toxic to human eggs. Dairy can have negative effects on both the immune system and the endocrine system, which are both vital when it comes to fertility.

When you are lactose intolerant, your body has to work extra hard to digest dairy products, and when the body is working too hard on other processes, it often can’t work as hard as it needs to on fertility.

4. What To Do

If you are concerned with how dairy may be affecting your fertility, think about switching to almond or soy milk. However, if you have ovulation issues, soy milk might be even worse for you than dairy, so talk with your doctor about that. As always, when you do eat dairy products, make sure to choose organic whenever possible so you can avoid the added growth hormones that have been known to impact fertility in a negative way. If you do cut out dairy, know that you can eat lots of fruits, veggies and lean meats to make sure that you get  what your needed and calcium as well.
