If you are struggling to get pregnant, you may be looking for some alternate ideas to help you conceive. Many times you will run across that idea that acupuncture aids in this process.

Surprisingly many have been able to conceive after they have had an acupuncture procedure. Not only has this proven successful for women, but it has also been helpful for men who are experiencing fertility issues as well.

1. Ancient Practice

Acupuncture is an ancient practice where extremely small needles are placed in specific spots throughout the body. These very specific locations are called acupuncture points and are considered pathways that control how the body works. Experts believe that these treatments help the blood that flows to the uterus and ovaries and helps regulate a woman’s body in a unique manner.

2. Stress

One of the leading causes of fertility problems is stress. Where this stress comes from does not matter, but many times it can be in relation to the stress of trying to conceive. Acupuncture can help alleviate much of this stress and produce a calm that makes getting pregnant easier to accomplish.

3. Beta endorphins

For women who are trying to get pregnant, they find that acupuncture helps with hormones such as beta endorphins. These hormones help with the stress levels of the body and help people to feel more relaxed on a daily basis.

4. Improve sperm count

For men, acupuncture has been shown to improve sperm count and make mobility of the sperm better as well. In one study of infertile men, 28 received acupuncture twice per week for 5 weeks.

Significant improvements to sperm were noted over the control group. This study proves that acupuncture can improve sperm and make it easier for a woman to get pregnant based solely upon the sperm that is trying to fertilize her egg.

There have been many studies conducted that have backed up the success that people have seen with acupuncture. This research has shown that the increase of healthy sperm increases as much as 30% in men who have acupuncture.

Widespread studies, however, have yet to be conducted so it is difficult to say if the procedure will be effective for everyone. Likewise, women are also able to get pregnant more easily because their bodies are functioning more naturally. Facilities that offer acupuncture for the sole purpose of getting pregnant see couples from all walks of life.

Many have gone through all the steps and tried many procedures to get pregnant without any luck. Others have even been told that they cannot get pregnant at all. However, with the aid of acupuncture many of these people have been able to get pregnant, even when they were told that they would be unable to.

5. Helpful for women with multiple miscarriages

Acupuncture has even been proven helpful for women who have seen multiple miscarriages and have trouble carrying a baby to full term. Many who have an acupuncture procedure have been able to produce healthy full term babies when this was not an option before.

6. Regulation of  menstrual and ovulation cycle

One important improvement that many women have found with acupuncture is the regulation of their menstrual and ovulation cycle. Many women, who are very irregular or who are not ovulating at all, have had an acupuncture procedure only to find that it helps their ovulation cycles become regular.

Doctors will sometimes suggest having acupuncture treatments to coincide with regular IVF treatments. They have found that their patients are less stressed and more susceptible to treatment, meaning that they are able to get pregnant faster.

7. Effective in treating thyroid problems

Acupuncture is also used for a number of other health issues as well and for those who are wishing to improve their overall health. It is a popular spa-like treatment and many people participate in it to relax the muscles and improve their blood flow.

Some, who have issues with their thyroid, have found that acupuncture is extremely effective in treating these issues. If you are struggling to get pregnant, you may find that acupuncture is something that you would like to try. You should remember that results will vary and that it is not a guaranteed way of getting pregnant.

Likewise, not everyone will enjoy acupuncture and you may find that you do not enjoy it at all. Acupuncture is simply one more option for you to give some thought to when you are trying to get pregnant. So, keep an open mind and give it some thought if your doctor happens to bring it up.

i have a nine yr old! i’ve had a abortion and a etopic pregnancy yrs ago, now im trying for another baby but i have been unsuccessful! what can i do to get oregnant?

I am sorry to hear your loss. Different women have different issues when trying to conceive: obesity, endometriosis, prescription medications, smoking, health problems and other gynecologic disorders. Getting pregnant again may not be as easy as the first time. While there are no hard-and-fast figures, most cases of secondary infertility stem from the female half of the equation. If you haven’t had a gynecological examination lately, I recommend seeing your gynecologist to determine exact cause and precede with available fertility treatments. Good luck!

I had to etopic lose a tube will I ever have a baby

    • Dr. Renee Hanton, MD

If only one tube was removed, you can still get pregnant. The fallopian tube is the passageway for the ovum connecting to the uterus and where fertilization occurs. As long as you still have a healthy fallopian tube, you can still have a baby.
