Being pregnant with twins can be both a little exciting and a little bit scary. Usually women don’t find out that they are expecting twins until their doctors visit where two heartbeats are heard. But, could there possibly be a way to know you are expecting twins before then? Are there any symptoms or signs of being pregnant with twins? Read on to find out.

1. Morning Sickness, But Way Worse

Many women who are pregnant with twins report feeling exceptionally nauseous. If you have had a baby before, you will instantly recognize that this isn’t your “normal” morning sickness. Doctors attribute this extreme morning sickness to double amounts of hormones entering your body.

Also look out for an extreme aversion to certain smells in early pregnancy. If you haven’t already been pregnant before, this can be hard to determine, what is “normal” and what is beyond normal.

2. Having to Pee a lot

It’s normal to notice an increased urgency to go to the bathroom when you are pregnant, but when you are pregnant with twins, that urgency is sometimes multiplied, well, by two. If you have a hard time making it to the bathroom in time, and feel like you always need to go, it might be because there are TWO babies pressing down on your bladder.

3. You feel the baby move way early

The normal time for noticing and feeling baby movements is around 15-16 weeks along. However, if you are having twins, it’s normal to notice baby movement much earlier than this. Keep an eye on how far along you are when you start to feel the bab(ies) move.

4. Your pregnancy test is positive early

For most women, HCG takes a while to build up in the body to the levels that can be detected on a home pregnancy test. For that reason it is recommended to wait until you have missed a period to test. However, women who are pregnant with twins often have higher HCG levels and therefore can get a clear and obvious positive result on a home pregnancy test way before a missed period.

5. You can’t keep your eyes open

This is another one of those pregnancy symptoms that is normal, but is definitely more pronounced in twin pregnancies. All pregnant women experience fatigue, but women who are pregnant with twins can experience it on a whole new level. If you find yourself feeling more tired than “normal tired”, consider twins a possibility.

These are all general signs and symptoms that might indicate that you are having twins. However, the only real way to tell if you are pregnant with twins is to visit your doctor and have him or her listen for two heartbeats or do an ultrasound. If you think it is possible that twins are in your future, visit your doctor to find out for sure.
